Introduction

A healthcare startup had built a remote patient care platform and reached the point where they were looking for funding partners. The technology side of the product was done, but they needed a way to demonstrate its real-world application. They came to us for branding and a website they would use during the pitch.

Understanding their needs

When the startup approached us they had a rough vision of a website and a brand. We found that the brand was not aligned with how they wanted to be perceived, and the website did not target their desired audience.

Our focus was to create a brand around the remote patient care platform and deploy a website that simply explained what the platform provided.

Building around their concept

In the discovery call the startup made clear they wanted to showcase what the platform meant for physicians and their patients. Our design team determined that a brochure-style website would be the right solution, built around the technology and its benefits rather than around services. The platform was not aimed at the general public but at potential investors, so the underlying technology needed to be front and centre. That gave investors a much better understanding of what they would be funding.

Then we turned to branding, packaging the product in a way that presented it as viable to investors. In the medical industry the brand has to read as trustworthy, and what the startup had drafted was not conveying that. We moved the palette from an army green to an ocean blue, because people psychologically read blue as trustworthy.

Next we simplified the logo. If your product is meant to simplify a person’s life, the logo should represent that. Finally we wrote copy and hand-picked imagery that felt friendly and welcoming. Healthcare carries a looming sense of negativity, and aligning the product with warmer elements removes some of it.

Outcome and results

We delivered a website that explained the startup’s vision, product and technology simply, paired with a trustworthy brand identity. That gave the startup a crucial tool to pitch with, and they got funded.
